if you mean in giga bytes the more the better,if you intend on keep thing on it 250gb to 500gb,you may not think you will store thing but usually you will,it you store alot 1TB 1000 gigabites LARGE!

Yes you can. As long as you have an external power supply and is 7200 rpm (don`t go less than 500 gig). Don`t worry about sleep mode. If you think about it, you can pause live action, so by default the EHD is always recording so it does not have a chance to sleep. Also, the 6131 receiver does not actually shut off, it goes into a screen saver mode (a tip screen appears) when you power off. Try to find an EHB without sleep mode anyway - good luck. I used the WD My Book Essential WDBAAF5000EBK-01 (it has sleep mode but it did not matter). I literally opened the box and plugged it in. The receiver recognized it and formatted accordingly. Just call Bell to activate (no charge). There was absolutely no difference in operating the remote control (I had the 5900 PVR before this).

All you do is purchase an external hard drive. Most external hard drives you connect to any computer or Bell satellite receiver by a USB connection. Your Bell 6131 6141 9200 9241 9242 receiver models will recognize this hard drive attached and an option will appear asking you if you would like to format this hard drive. Choose yes and as long as this drive is powered and attached to Bell TV equipment, it will be available through your menu options.

the 6141 reciever will accept an external hard drive up to 1TB maximum space(will not accept anything larger). I use western digital drives wilth my bell recievers and they work well and run cool.

All you do is plug the external hard drive into the USB port on the back of the bell 6131 6141 9242 or 9241 and it should automatically detect and offer the option to format. Select ok and the drive should be ready after it is formatted.
