Someone said: you have to buy a data plan which acesses the internet and lets you recieve photo's. i think it is ten dolars a month! :)
Someone said: thats not true you should be able to retrieve pictures without a data plan because it dosnt involve getting on the internet it must just be your phone
Someone said: I have at
Someone said: My carrier is att. i have a texting plan and i couldnt receive pics. i also had the internet blocked on my phone.I called att and tyey told me in order to open a picture text i need access to the internet. im not charged for using the internet to open a picture, however, since ive taken the internet block off i do get charged occassionally because i've accidently pushed a button on my phone and connected.
Someone said: I had the same problem, however you do need to have the internet acess to recive or send pics. You will not be charged for just turning the internet on, because its pay per use. And unless you open a browser, you wont be charged:)
P.s- Im only 12!

Someone said: i had problems on pantech ease, which i got a week ago. I went in to menu, messaging, settings, multimedia messages, receiving settings, make sure automatic down load is yes, allow delivery reply to yes, allow read reply to prompt. one thing they dont tell you is that you have to shut your phone off and then back on like a restart for a computer, took me a minute to figure it out but i got it.
Someone said: Peps NONE of this helps
Someone said: yes u will be charged a min. of 2.00 for any data used unless you have a data plan, u can call att and sometimes they remove the charge.
Someone said: I have 5 lines. Every month I get charged a min. of $4.00. ($2/each phone) for data access. We NEVER hit the internet button. I call every month
Someone said: I'm an AT
Someone said: I Have the same problem and i have a sister who has a pantect lazar and her's works fine when she retrives the picture or video mail. But mine isn't working and idk how to get picture/ video mail
Someone said: i have that problem to but i think cuz i dnt have internet u need internet to get and send pictures !!
Someone said: fg
Someone said: turn it on and turn it back of
Someone said: Yep you have to have a data plan
Rini said: You know you can block data all together, right? You can either do it directly from the website or you can call in and havec customer services. You should NOT need the internet to send picture messages! I am puzzled why so many people beleive this to be true. However, it does charge more than a standard text msg if you do not have a messaging package.
Someone said: i cant get my picture of my pantech how do i do this
Someone said: i plug my usb in my pc and i cant get my pictureoff my phone
Someone said: u do not have to have a data plan but u do have to b able to access the internet in order to get pic mail. if your internet is blocked u wont be able to send or receive pics but as long as u dont actually access the net u shouldnt get charged for it.
Someone said: Does anyone know why i can get some pictures but not others? And if so how can i fix this?
Someone said: As far as ATT is concerned, anything other than text messaging (and of course regular phone service) is considered by them to be data. Sending multimedia messages automatically puts you into sending data category ($1/MB, 2MB charge if you do not have a data plan)
Someone said: Actually as long as you have a messaging plan they do not charge for the data used when sending multimedia messages.
Someone said: FYI: I am a former certified wireless trainer for a MAJOR wireless company. Meaning I spent 8 weeks with a class of 30 employess showing them everything there is to know about cell phones. EVERYTHING! I worked in their largest call center in North America. Do not trust those who work in the stores. They get a week of training. That is it. Who would you prefer to speak with. Someone who spent 8 weeks in training and gets paid a salary or 1 week in training and is paid on commision. Trust me.
It is true that if you have you internet blocked on your phone you will not be able to send/recieve pic messages. The reson for this is because is order to send/recieve pic messages your phone MUST access the data network (internet). YOU ARE NEVER CHARGED FOR THIS!! No matter what carrier you are with. EVER! They used to change for this access to the internet (about 10 years ago) but they no longer do so.
SOOOO....there is a way around this. You can keep your internet block on your phone BUT still have the ability to send/recieve pix. How? Well there are TWO different blocks your cell phone provider can add. One will block all data and the other will block all data except pix sending/recieving. Now, most people have the first one.
You are probably asking yourself "why didn't anyone tell me"? or "i asked my carrier about this and they said it couldn't be done!" To tell the truth...no....it couldn't be done until bout 3-4 years ago. The cell phone companies changed the blocks they provide due to the fact that their customers were complaining about recieving data charges because they didn't have a block but just wanted to send/recieve pix. So they got down to biz and made two different blocks. If you have been with your carrier for more than 3 years or so then you have the first block...for sure you do. If you recently signed up and have the block but still can't send/recieve that means that the person who added the block did one of the following things...
1) didn't know the difference between the blocks....I would say about 6/10 of them wouldn't know
2) didn't offer you a choice between the two for a number of other reasons that I don't care to address right now.
So what do you do now?
Call your provider and ask them to change your block to the data block that still allows pix messaging. If they refuse or tell you they don't exist....ASK FOR A SUPERVISOR!!!! They are once again either mis-informed or don't feel like explaining it to you, or really just don't care.
Continue to escalate through correct channels until the correct block is added.
Once again if you add the data block that allows pix messaging YOU WILL NEVER BE CHARGED FOR DATA!!! EVER!!!!!!! No accidently hitting a button, no change for sending/recieving pix....NOTHING!
Anyone who tells you a carrier charges you data for sending/recieving data is wrong. WRONG WRONG WRONG. Cell phone companies are no longer permitted to do so. However, if you do check your data usage it may say you have some usage....BECAUSE YOU ACCESSED THE DATA NETWORK TO SEND/RECIEVE A PIC. But they DO NOT charge for that. Your bill/usage summary is simply showing that usage was there. Just like your night/weekend minutes. They show up on your bill as a call but do you get charged for them? No. They are merely keeping record of your usgae.
Now, there are going to be people that say "Well, I was charged data but I didn't access the internet. All I did was send a pix.". Sorry to say but you did access the internet for something other than a pic. That is why you were charged. You can protest and dispute all you want and get credits for whatever BUT you STILL ACCESSED the internet. How, you say? Well there are numerous ways to access the internet on your phone but accident and on purpose. I don't care how smart you are. It will happen. How many times have you gone to the wrong channel on your tv remote or spelled something inccorectly while typing? PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES!!! it happens. You carrier should credit you back if you continue to dispute the charges but in reality you did do it. It wouldn't be on your bill if it didn't. Billing errors don't happen with companies that have over 100 million customers. They just don't. Not like that. A billing error would be charging your for someoen else's minutues, a credit showing as a charge on your bill, etc. BIG WOOPS kinda stuff.
So there you have it. Once again, call them and ask to add the second block on. That is all you need to do.
