Ti safe mode in windows 8
Press Windows + I hotkey (or swipe from the right edge of the screen then choose Settings) to bring up Settings panel. After that, you need to click “Change PC Settings” at the bottom to open PC Settings.

Once PC Settings has opened, on the left side, select “General”.
After that, on the right side, you will find the “Advanced Startup” option at the bottom of the list. Click the “Restart Now” button from under “Advanced Startup”. Remember to save your works before clicking that button, because it restarts your machine.

Now wait until your Windows restarts — it will boot into the “Advanced Startup” menu.
Once you are at this menu, you need to choose “Troubleshoot” then select “Advanced Options.”

After that, choose “Windows Startup Settings” and click “Restart” button to restart your computer or tablet again.

This restart will bring you to the traditional menu list that has options such as Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking and Safe Mode with Command Prompt. Once your machine restarts, choose Safe Mode (or Safe Mode with Networking or Safe Mode with Command Prompt) from the menu to enter Safe Mode.

SHORTCUT TO GET INTO SAFE MODE

In the above directions I described going into PC Settings to restart your computer or tablet into Advanced Startup. There is another way to get to this Advanced Startup menu. Instead of going to PC Settings, you can open the Charms bar (Windows + C hotkey to bring up Charms or swipe right edge of your screen), hold the SHIFT key, tap/click the power icon on Charms, and select “Restart” while still holding SHIFT key.

"(if your notebook is still under warranty you have..."

The possible reason for this are:
1. Your operating system is corrupted and not recognized; in this case you need to reinstall your operating system by using your restore cd or Operating system disc.
2. Your hard drive is not detected. (If your notebook is still under warranty you have to send this in to the repair centre for them to reseat the hard drive as some service centre voids the warranty when you open your notebook yourself but if your notebook is no longer under warranty, you can reseat the hard drive yourself, to do this you have to turn off your notebook, then remove your hard drive from the notebook and then put it back again).

If you have tried the ram chips one at a time, all the ram did NOT go bad at once. Therefore it`s your motherboard and fixing that is impossible (imho). Go motherboard shopping or just splurge for a new computer. Probably not the answer you wanted but I think you will find it is your only choice. If not post here I would be very interested to here back.

mo.parman72 said: Thank you. I believe you're right. Cheaper to buy a new mobo for $169 than to buy even a good used lappy for $250-$300. BTW, I tried booting UBCD, UBCD4Win, Hiren's, and SeaTools for DOS. Got the same restart loop.

Someone said: Yup time to go shopping... but you should consider advances in technology... yes a new motherboard is the cheapest upgrade but not necessarily the best value. New ram types, bus sizes and speeds, cpu technologies... may mean (depending on age) that a moderately priced computer / laptop may be much faster than fixing your current computer. Also I learned this with my boat... when things get old they break... you may replace the motherboard only to find your hdd blow next month... everything has so many hours of continuous use its rated for... then goodbye... So see what is out there new performance wise before you drop $169 tax into a new motherboard on an older computer... might not make sense. Just my 2 cents :)

mo.parman72 said: LOL OK. :) The Acer was a gift, anyhow. Friend's moving away and said I could use it for parts maybe. I thought I might have a go at getting it running again. My own personal laptop is an '02 Compaq Presario 2545US with XP. 10 years old, still all-original, and still running fine...except the battery only lasts 30 minutes or so and the touchpad/mouse daughterboard is deceased. I keep it lean and clean, and do regular hw/sw maintenance on it. I did have another one given to me by a friend who upgraded...an '08 Presario F756NR. Wish I hadn't sold it. :( If I do get another one, it'll be a Compaq (CQ60-410US or NX6325...or another F756NR).

Someone said: Hi , can`t find a date of this topic so if i`m pulling on an old issue: sorry But what i dit, when expiriencing the same trouble with my aspire 5720G laptop, i did the following: I dismounted mij MB , pulled the removable chips and the ram battery off, and... baked it in the oven! 10 min`s on appr. 200 degrees Celcius . Let it cool down for 10 minutes and assemble it again. As we speak, i`m posting this from the very laptop...

I ended up having to replace the motherboard. There was a fault in the power circuitry. Once I did that, it ran fine. I didn't even have to do a repair install or reinstall the OS. The laptop has since been sold. I have another one now. Older, but in my opinion, better. LOL A Compaq Presario 2545US with XP.

The good thing is that it is powering up. Go and grab an operating system installer. IF you do not have important files to save in that computer, format and install the operating system. If yes you do have, connect first the hard disk of that computer to another computer to save the file. CHeers!

mo.parman72 said: True, that. I have had good luck on eBay buying parts. I got the bits 'n' pieces of a Dell Latitude D630 here and there on eBay and assembled a fine lappy for a total cost of $185+cost of shipping. You might consider doing that with a laptop you like.. I'd consider these 3... Dell Latitude D630, Compaq NX6325, or IBM ThinkPad T42. Older, but still solid business-class lappys that are known for reliability and are built tougher than mainstream. They will also support Windows 7.

Are you sure that your C D / DV D rom is working well? If yes, the problem is maybe on the CD that your trying to boot. Make sure that it is bootable, you can try the CD on other computer to make sure. If the Cd also don`t boot on other computer, try to make a new bootable CD.

Try to clean the RAM of your laptop, also try putting it in different slot. If the problem is still in there, The best thing to do is to bring your laptop in the repair center. If your laptop is still cover by warranty, much better.
